Moothon premiering at Toronto International Film Festival
Nivin Pauly’s ‘Moothon’ (The Elder One) is set to have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). This year’s festival is scheduled to be held from September 5-15. ‘Moothon’ has also been chosen as the opening film at the 20th edition of Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival, which will be held from October 17-24.
Written and directed by Geetu Mohandas, ‘Moothon’ tells the story of a man called Mullakoya from Lakshadweep. As per the details in TIFF website, Geetu Mohandas presents an unsparing yet inspiring vision of Mumbai through the story of two small-town siblings, each with their own reason for escaping to the big city, in this urgent drama pondering gender, sexuality, violence, and tolerance.
‘Moothon’ has its story penned by Geetu herself while ace Bollywood filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has joined her in writing the Hindi dialogues. The director’s husband Rajeev Ravi, also an acclaimed filmmaker, is the cinematographer. National award winner Ajithkumar is editing the movie and Sneha Khanwalkar is the composer.
Along with Nivin Pauly, ‘Moothon’ also stars Bollywood actors Shashank Arora and Sobhita Dhulipala in major roles. Rosshan Mathew, Dileesh Pothan, debutante Melissa Raju Thomas and many others are part of the supporting cast. Anurag Kashyap is presenting the movie in association with JAR Pictures, Mini Studio and Good Bad Films.
