Soorarai Pottru out of Oscars race!
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences recently released the Oscar nominations for 2021. Much to the disappointment of Indian cinema lovers, Suriya’s ‘Soorarai Pottru’ failed to make it to the prestigious list. Earlier, the film had made it to the list of 366 films eligible for Best Picture in the Academy Awards.
Soorarai Pottru joined the Oscars under the categories of Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director, Best Original Score and a few other categories. It was the only Indian film amongst the films eligible for nomination at this year’s Oscars.
‘Soorarai Pottru’ directed by Sudha Kongara tells the story of a common man’s journey from humble backgrounds to accomplish his dream of launching an airlines service with the aim of serving the underprivileged. The film is actually inspired from the real life of Captain GR Gopinath, the founder of Air Deccan.
Suriya’s performance as the protagonist Nedumaaran Rajangam aka Maara got rated by many as one of his finest in his whole career. Lead actress Aparna Balamurali and veteran Urvashi also found widespread appreciation. The film had a direct release in Amazon Prime Video and emerged as a big success.
