Kerala Minister Saji Cherian extends support to Prithviraj
After Prithviraj raised his voice about the ongoing situation in Lakshwadeep, the actor has been targeted by an oraganized cyber attack by BJP supporters. Things escalated after the right wing Malayalam news channel Janam TV posted a highly objectionable article written by their Chief Editor GK Suresh Babu. The article had offensive language and made personal remarks against Prithviraj. Solidarity has been pouring in for the after from all corners. Fans, fellow industry colleagues as well as politicians have come out in his support.
Recently, Minister Saji Cherian also extended his support to Prithviraj. In a detailed Facebook post, he has asked Cultural Kerala as a whole to protest against those who’ve taken up the sword against actor Prithviraj for declaring solidarity with the people of Lakshadweep. The post reads,
“The statements of these groups show a fascist approach that seeks to silence the entire opposition. It should also be seen as an approach to the earlier approach to Kalburgi, Pansare and Gaurilankesh. In this case, cultural Kerala as a whole will be with Prithviraj.
The actor shared the pain of ordinary islanders who are upset and protesting against the Lakshadweep administrator’s disgusting reforms to destroy the beauty and culture of a beautiful island community and subjugate it to monopolies. He shared his concern that the unique charm and beauty of the island, which he had seen, known and experienced from the time he was a school student would be alienated. He realized the seriousness of the message sent to him by friends from the island community to oppose the ruler’s anti-people moves.
As an artist who responsibly observes socio-cultural issues, Prithviraj understands that it is human beings, their lives and cultural interactions form the identity and cultural sanctity of a region. It is highly reprehensible that his father Sukumaran’s name has unnecessarily been dragged into this and insulted. People need to recognize the anti-cultural and fascist attitudes behind such rhetoric.
Prithviraj is not just an actor or an artist. He has protested against many crucial socio-cultural issues, especially violence against women, and has taken a very progressive stance. Solidarity to him.”
Prithviraj has also received support from celebs like Aju Varghese, Midhun Manuel Thomas, Antony Varghese, Jude Anthany Joseph, Priyadarshan, Arun Gopy, Anoop Menon, Sajid Yahiyaa and Maala Parvathy.
