Oscars 2025: Malayalam Film The Goat Life Among Indian Contenders for Best Picture
As the 97th Academy Awards approach, the excitement is palpable with the announcement of 207 films eligible for the coveted Best Picture category. Among them is the Malayalam film Aadujeevitham (The Goat Life), a poignant drama that has captured international attention. Directed by Blessy and based on the bestselling novel by Benyamin, the film stars Prithviraj Sukumaran in a career-defining role, portraying the harrowing journey of an Indian migrant worker stranded in the Saudi Arabian desert.
The film’s gripping narrative, coupled with A. R. Rahman’s evocative score and Sunil K.S.’s breathtaking cinematography, has earned it acclaim at prestigious film festivals worldwide. The Goat Life is a compelling exploration of human resilience, survival, and the indomitable spirit against insurmountable odds.
Joining The Goat Life on the eligibility list are four other Indian films: Kanguva (Tamil), Santosh (Hindi), Swatantrya Veer Savarkar (Hindi), and All We Imagine as Light (Malayalam).
Voting for the final nominations begins on January 8, 2025, and Indian cinema enthusiasts are hopeful for The Goat Life to secure a historic nomination. The Oscars 2025 ceremony will take place on March 2, 2025, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.
