1971 Beyond Borders or Puthan Panam, which among the two can break The Great Father record?
One of the most awaited movies od the year, The Great Father starring Megastar Mammootty was released yesterday (March 30). Though the movie was received with mixed reviews from the critics, it opened to massive figures in the box office. The Great Father now holds the record for the highest first day grosser in Kerala.
This summer, Mollywood has some other biggies lined up for release. Mohanlal’s 1971 Beyond Borders and Mammootty’s Puthan Panam are the two superstar releases.
Major Ravi- Mohanlal team’s 1971 Beyond Borders is the fourth in the Major Mahadevan franchise after Keerthichakra, Kurukshetra and Kandahar. This movie is centered around the 1971 Indo-Pak war with Mohanlal playing a dual role as Mahadevan and his father Sahadevan. The movie’s trailer, released today, has heightened the expectations and it promises to be a riveting war drama. Mohanlal is currently in glorious form with all of his last three movies entering the 50 crore club. 1971 Beyond Borders is also expected to follow the suit and the fact that the Telugu version is also releasing on the same day, April 7, ensures a massive opening also.
Puthan Panam is all set to hit screens on April 13. There is a good positive hype surrounding the movie as it marks the reunion of one of the most favourite actor-director combos of Mollywood, Mammootty and Ranjith. Puthan Panam will be a socially relevant movie discussing about the current financial situation and black money circulation in the country. The movie will be a different perspective on director Ranjith’s National Award winning movie Indian Rupee. So obviously, expectations about the movie are quite high.
We will have to wait and watch to know which among the two will have the biggest opening and dethrone The Great Father from the top spot.
