2.0 theatrical rights bagged by August Cinema for a record amount?

Rajinikanth-Akshay Kumar starrer 2.0 is easily the most awaited Indian film of the year. The much talked about sci-fi magnum opus directed by Shankar is the sequel of his 2010 blockbuster Enthiran. Made on a lavish budget of around Rs 450 crores, it is said to be the most expensive Indian film ever.

As announced earlier, the movie will be hitting screens worldwide by the end of April as a grand summer release. The latest we hear is that August Cinema, one of the leading banners in Mollywood, has bagged the Kerala theatrical rights of 2.0. Reportedly, they have acquired the rights for a record amount. It was expected as the hype for 2.0 is humongous and is certain to shatter almost all pre-exisiting box office records. We are still waiting for official confirmation from August Cinema.

2.0 was initially supposed to hit screens this month for the Republic Day weekend, this month, but it got postponed due to the extensive post-production. The pending VFX and animatronic works are currently being handled by various organisations from more than 10 countries.

Many internationally renowned technicians are involved in the movie’s technical side. Hollywood stunt choreographer Kenny Bates, best known for his works in films like Transformers, Pearl Harbour and Die Hard, is choreographing the stunts in 2.0. Academy Award winner A R Rahman is composing the music and Resul Pookkutty is in charge of the sound design. Legacy Effects, who have worked in movies like Avengers, Jurassic Park, Iron Man etc are working on the animatronics department.

Inspired by the massive success of Dangal and Baahubali 2, the makers of 2.0 are planning to release the movie in all major Indian languages in addition to Japanese and Chinese versions.
