Ever since Mohanlal announced that his long awaited movie Randamoozham will go on floors soon, there have been talks about some of India’s biggest superstars being part of the movie. Arguably the biggest superstar in India cinema, Amitabh Bachchan was said to be playing a pivotal role in the movie.
Director of Randamoozham, Shrikumar Menon has confirmed that Amitabh Bachchan is indeed part of the movie and he will be playing the role of Bheeshmar. Randamoozham is a cinematic adaptation of MT Vasudevan Nair’s novel of the same name. Mohanlal is playing the lead role of Bheemasenan in the movie, which is based on the Hindu epic Mahabharatha.
Shrikumar Menon in an interview to Times Of India confirmed about Big B being part of the movie but dismissed reports about the casting of Aishwarya Rai and other big names, that have been doing the rounds.
In the interview, he is quoted saying, “Yes, he is the Bhishma of Randamoozham. We aren’t taking any cinematic liberties with the character for the movie, he will be playing the role as it is in the book. We are still working on finalizing the rest of the cast.”
Amitabh Bachchan and Mohanlal have earlier acted together in Ram Gopal Varma’s Aag and Major Ravi’s Kandahar, which also marked Bachchan’s debut in Mollywood. There are also reports about the two sharing screen space in Mohanlal’s upcoming big budget fantasy movie Odiyan, which will also be directed by Shrikumar Menon. But there is still no official confirmation about Big B being part of Odiyan.
Randamoozham is being planned as a multilingual in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Kannada.
The movie is apparently being made on a budget of Rs 500 crores. It is reported that an established production company from Mollywood will collaborate with biggies Warner Bros and Reliance Entertainment for funding this movie.
