Baahuabli’s technicians to be associated with this Nivin Pauly film!
Malayalam cinema is growing and that is evident from the kind of mammoth projects that are either in the planning stages or have already started rolling. With bigger projects comes the need for better technicians so as to deliver the best possible output. Many leading technicians who were once unaccessible for Malayalam filmmakers are now open to associate themselves with our films. One such movie that is in it’s pre-production stage is director Roshan Andrews’ Kayamkulam Kochunni.
The ace director is teaming up with Nivin Pauly for the first time for a movie on the life of Kayamkulam Kochunni, a popular rebel from the folklore of Kerala. The National award winning writer duo of Bobby and Sanjay did extensive research works for over two years to script this film. This ambitious project is being produced by Gokulam Gopalan under the banner of Sri Gokulam Films.
Since its a project that is conceived on a wider canvas, leading technicians from outside the circles of Mollywood have been roped in. Binod Pradhan, one of Indian cinema’s most popular cameramen will be making his Malayalam debut with this film.
PM Satheesh, who was the sound designer of films like the Baahubali series, Talaash, Mangal Pandey etc will be handling the sound design department. It is reported that the sound design works alone will consume around three months time. Since it’s a period film, creating a similar atmosphere through sound will be quite a challenging task.
Hyderabad-based Firefly Creative Studio will be handling the visual effects department of Kayamkulam Kochunni. The studio have earlier worked in other biggies like Baahubali: The Beginning, Enthiran, Magadheera etc. Foreign technicians will also be involved in choreographing the movie’s action sequences. Gopi Sunder has already started composing music for this movie.
The movie will explore several unknown aspects of Kochunni’s life from how he became a rebel to his love life. Amala Paul has been roped in to play the female lead. Nivin Pauly will be undergoing a complete makeover along with taking formal training in Kalaripayattu for playing Kochunni’s role.
The movie is scheduled to start rolling by September first week in Sri Lanka. Majority of the portions will be filmed in Sri Lanka and the remaining in Kayamkualm and nearby areas. The makers are eyeing to release the movie by March next year.
