Dangal nearing Rs 500 at the China Box Office
Aamir Khan’s Dangal has took the China box office by storm. The movie was released on May 5 in around 9000 screens across the country. The Nitish Tiwari directorial was released as Shuai Jiao Baba or Let’s Wrestle Father in Chinese.
Dangal raked in a whopping Rs 72.68 crores from the opening weekend itself in China. According to latest reports, at the end of its 4th day, the movie has is all set to cross the Rs 500 crore mark in China.
This week marks Dangal’s second week run at the theatres and the blockbuster wrestling drama is in no mood to slow down. The movie earned $4.13 million (26.47 crores) yesterday and now stands with a grand total of $ 74.46 million (476.96 crores). The film will cross the 500 crore mark anytime soon.
Dangal is inspired from the real life of Haryanvi wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat, who trained his daughters to world class wrestlers. Aamir Khan essayed Mahavir Singh Phogat’s character while Fatima Sana Sheikh, Sanya Malhotra, Zaira Wasim and Suhani Bhatnagar played his daughter’s parts. Apart from becoming a massive commercial success, the Aamir Khan starrer has also garnered critical appreciation.
Dangal has also become the highest grossing Bollywood film in China. The movie recently crossed the Rs 1000 crore mark becoming only the second Indian film after Baahubali 2: The Conclusion to do so. It currently stands with a total worldwide gross of Rs 1221.20 crores at the global box office.
The movie, during it’s initial theatrical run did an overall business of Rs 740 crores. Aamir Khan enjoys a huge fan base in China as his film PK had also crossed the 100 crore mark in China. He even made an appearance in the country before the film’s release. It was also screened at the Beijing Film Festival this year.
