Discussions on for Prithviraj-Tovino starrer Karachi 81
It was two years back on Republic Day that it was announced that Prithviraj and Tovino will be teaming up for a film titled ‘Karachi 81’. KS Bava, who earlier made the Asif Ali starrer ‘Idiots’, was supposed to direct the film with Anto Joseph as the producer.
However, the project had to be put on hold after the pandemic disrupted their plans. It seems like the makers are now trying to revive it. Last day, KS Bava took to his Facebook handle to share a photo taken with Prithviraj, Tovino and Anto Joseph. An update regarding when they are planning to begin shoot is expected soon.
‘Karachi 81’ is touted to be a spy-thriller, a genre that has rarely been attempted in Malayalam. KS Bava and Anwar Huzain have jointly scripted the film. We had earlier learnt that that the film’s is story set in the 80s when RAW’s elite southern commando force forms a team of best to counter the series of operations planned by ISI backed covert forces in India. The team is lead by a man who was regarded as India’s finest counter insurgency commando. The film basically tells the inspiring tale of a few brave men and women who ensured the country’s security at a time when there was no digital surveillance. Prithviraj is likely to play the lead role with Tovino essaying another important part.
‘Karachi 81’ was originally announced with Sujith Vassudev as the cinematographer, Mahesh Narayanan as the editor and Jakes Bejoy as the composer. It remains to be seen if the makers retain the same trio.
