Ee Maa Yau and Sudani From Nigeria selected to compete in 23rd IFFK
The 23rd International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) this year will be held in Thiruvananthapuram from December 7 to 13. Due to the floods that rocked the State, there was an uncertainty regarding the festival. However, the government has decided to go ahead with the festival, but as a low key affair. The festival will feature 120 films and is expected to be attend by around 12,000 delegates. The delegate fee has been hiked from Rs 650 to Rs 2,000 this year.
From Malayalam cinema, Zakariya’s Sudani From Nigeria and Lijo Jose Pellissery’s Ee Maa Yau have been selected in the competition category. In the Malayalam today section, twelve films have been selected, which includes Soubin Shahir’s Parava, Aashiq Abu’s Mayaanadhi, B Ajith Kumar’s Eeda and Jayaraj’s Bhayanakam. Interestingly, among the fourteen films selected for screening, ten of them are directed by debutants.
Earlier this year, Sudani From Nigeria and Ee Maa Yau had won widespread critical acclaim during their theatrical run. Ee Maa Yau also wondering three awards at the State level – best director (Lijo Jose Pellissery), best supporting actress (Pauly Valsan), sound design (Renganath Ravee).
