Ezra outperforms Pulimurugan
Prithviraj’s latest release Ezra has got a stunning opening in the Kerala box office. According to reports from trade sources, the movie raked in a whopping Rs 2.65 crores from the opening day collections. It is now among the top 4 in the highest opening day grossers in Malayalam cinema.
Second day of the release, February 11, has also seen massive collections. While the opening day figures in the Cochin multiplexes amount to Rs 16.79 lakh, the movie has raked in Rs 14.40 from the second day. That makes it a total of Rs 31.19 lakh from the first two days in Cochin multiplexes.
Reportedly, the movie has outperformed Mohanlal’s Pulimurugan in the occupancy rate in the Cochin multiplexes. The second day occupancy of Ezra is the all time highest with 99.85% occupancy. Pulimurugan previously held the record with 99.58% occupancy on it’s fifth day of release.
These are phenomenal numbers for Ezra. The movie, directed by debutant Jay K was released amid high expectations thanks to the interesting teasers and the well structured promotions. It is an one of its kind horror thriller in Malayalam. The treatment, story background and the technical values of the movie are very new to the industry. Audience especially youngsters are flocking theatres in large numbers. Most of the shows for the weekend have already been booked houseful.
