This year is showing some great signs for Film Makers here in Mollywood as small films irrespective of the star value of the artists acting in it getting great response from the common people and that reflects in its box office collections as well. We saw that Fahad Fazil starrer Maheshinte Prathikaram which was comparatively a small film made it big at box office in the beginning of this year.
Later we saw the film named Happy Wedding, which came from a young team lead by Omar getting great response from the audience and the flick had already become a super hit here in Mollywood. The latest in this list is Ozhivu Divasathe Kali by Sanal Kumar Sasidharan and Lens by Jayaprakash Radhakrishnan, which released Last Friday.
Ozhivu Divasathe Kali and Lens are experimental films in which there is no popular stars in it. Everyone associated with these films were fresh faces and they are small budget films as well. But these films are getting all the attention now for its content and the style of making, which really makes the audience to appreciate these movies whole heartedly.
Ozhivu Divasathe Kali had won the Kerala State Best film award of the year 2015 and still it did not get any distributor to release it in screens because of the absence of popular stars in it. Then came director Aashiq Abu to support this movie and he distributed the film all over Kerala. As per reports, from the first show itself the film had got houseful shows from center like Trivandrum and in the second day also it is getting great response from the crowd.
Lens directed by Jayaprakash Radhakrishnan is distributed by LJ Films owned by director Lal Jose. This film too now getting great response from the common people after a slow start. The great word of mouth is spreading all over Kerala and people coming to watch the film irrespective of rains and all that.
It seems that Malayalam cinema is slowly going back to its vintage best when all films done well if the content is good. Films of stars and films without stars fared good at Mollywood box office once and now these small films taking Mollywood back to that wonderful time again.
