‘L2: Empuraan’ Creates History with 645K Ticket Sales in 24 Hours on BookMyShow
The anticipation surrounding “L2: Empuraan”, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran and starring Mohanlal, has reached unprecedented heights. Even before its release, the film has set a new benchmark in Indian cinema. The nationwide advance booking commenced on March 21 at 9 AM, and within just 24 hours, “L2: Empuraan” sold a staggering 645,000 tickets through the BookMyShow platform alone. This achievement marks the highest-ever advance ticket sales in Indian cinema, surpassing previous records held by major Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi big-budget films. Notably, in just one hour, the film had already sold close to 100,000 tickets, reinforcing its dominance in the booking trends. Produced by Subaskaran (Lyca Productions), Antony Perumbavoor (Aashirvad Cinemas), and Gokulam Gopalan (Sree Gokulam Movies), “L2: Empuraan” is set for a grand release.
Scripted by Murali Gopy, the film is a milestone in Malayalam cinema as the first-ever IMAX release in the industry. Scheduled for a worldwide premiere on March 27, the film will start screening as early as 6 AM IST across global locations. The distribution in Tamil Nadu is handled by Sree Gokulam Movies, while Sri Venkateswara Creations, led by Dil Raju, is managing its release in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. In North India, the film will be distributed by AA Films, owned by Anil Thadani, while the Karnataka distribution is taken care of by Hombale Films, one of the biggest production and distribution houses in Kannada cinema. Overseas advance bookings began well in advance, and the film has already amassed over ₹17 crore in pre-sales, setting yet another record for Malayalam cinema.
“L2: Empuraan”, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2019 blockbuster “Lucifer”, boasts an ensemble cast featuring Mohanlal, Prithviraj Sukumaran, Manju Warrier, Tovino Thomas, Indrajith Sukumaran, Suraj Venjaramoodu, and international actor Jerome Flynn. The film also includes Baiju, Saikumar, Andrea Kevichüsa, Abhimanyu Singh, Saniya Iyappan, Fazil, Sachin Khedekar, Nyla Usha, and several other renowned names. Shot by cinematographer Sujith Vaassudev, with music composed by Deepak Dev and editing by Akhilesh Mohan, the film will be released in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, and Kannada. With record-breaking advance sales and global anticipation, “L2: Empuraan” is shaping up to be one of the biggest Indian releases of the year.
