Malayalam film industry mourns the loss of legendary actress Sridevi
The whole of India woke up to a shocking news about the demise of legendary actress Sridevi. The 54-year-old actor passed away last night due to cardiac arrest. She along with her husband Boney Kapoor and younger daughter Khushi were in Dubai to attend her nephew Mohit Marwah’s wedding. Her passing away has come as a huge shock to movie lovers across the country.
Sridevi has acted in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Hindi and Kannada languages. She was widely regarded as the first female superstar of Indian cinema. Mollywood celebrities like Mohanlal, Mammootty, Manju Warrier, Nivin Pauly, Tovino Thomas and many others mourned her passing away in social media. Sridevi was hugely popular among the Malayali audience even before she became a superstar in Bollywood.
She debuted in Malayalam in 1969 as a child actor with the movie Kumara Sambhavam. She later went on to star in numerous Malayalam movies like Theerthayathra, Aalinganam, Aa Nimisham, Satyavan Savithtri etc. She has also won a Kerala State award for best child actor for her performance in the movie ‘Poompatta’. Her last Malayalam movie was Bharathan’s Devaragam in which she was paired opposite Arvind Swamy.
