Mammootty in talks for antagonist role in Thani Oruvan 2?
Mammootty has had a great year so far with four releases in three languages, and all of them enjoying a fair run. It is after a long gap that the star has shown interest in doing other language films, the main reason for this being the space to challenge the actor in himself. Both ‘Peranbu’ in Tamil and ‘Yatra’ in Malayalam had solid scope for performance, something that has been dearly missed in the roles offered to him in Malayalam. It is now being reported that another big offer has come his way in the form of ‘Thani Oruvan 2’.
Tamil filmmaker Mohan Raja is currently working on the pre-production of the sequel to his superhit 2015 action-thriller ‘Thani Oruvan’. While Jayam Ravi and Arvind Swami played the lead roles in it, the sequel will have Jayam Ravi pitted against a new villain. Interestingly, Mammootty has been approached to play the antagonist’s part.
Arvind Swami’s villain role, Siddharth Abhimanyu, from ‘Thani Oruvan’ was a highly talked about one. As an affluent scientist who is also a kingpin in criminal activities, Arvind Swami was amazingly effortless and made it a memorable character. It will be tough for any ordinary actor to emulate that performance as parallels are certain to be drawn.
However, a proven actor like Mammootty will be able to pull it off in his own style. Moreover, it will also be a new experience for the Tamil audience as they are used to seeing Mammootty in softer roles. It remains to be seen if he commits to the project as he already has a handful of films lined up in Malayalam.
