Philips and the Monkey Pen was one of the surprise hits of 2013 which was directed and written by the duo of Shanil Muhammed and Rojin Thomas. The film had Master Sanoop Santhosh and Jayasurya in lead roles along with Remya Nambeesan, Vijay Babu and Joy Mathew. It was financed by Vijay Babu and Sandra Thomas under their banner named Friday Film House. The film got both critical as well as commercial success and got 3 awards in the State Film Awards as well. They were awarded in the categories like Best Children’s Film, Best Children’s Film Director and Best Child Artist. Master Sanoop Santhosh with his sterling performance became the darling of the masses in Kerala and later he acted with Mohanlal and Mammootty as well in films like Peruchazhi and Bhaskar the Rascal which were also Box Office successes.
Now the latest news is that actress Manju Warrier has joined this Monkey Pen team to do their next movie titled as Jo and The Boy and the filming has already begun in several locations at Kodaikanal. But this time Rejin Thomas alone is directing the film in which Master Sanoop Santhosh playing the lead character along with Manju Warrier. Manju Warrier and Master Sanoop Santhosh plays the titular characters Jo and The Boy respectively.
Rojin Thomas himself has scripted for this film. Other than Manju Warrier and Sanoop, actors like Lalu Alex, Pearle Maaney are playing key roles in this film. It will have almost 25 days of shooting at Kodaikanal and later will have 5 days of shooting at Ladak. Manju Warrier celebrated her Onam this year with the crew of this film in the location.
Neil D’cunha is the DOP of the film and the director has said that this one will be a complete Manju Warrier film. She has acted in 3 films after her re-entry to Mollywood and the 3rd one is all set to release in this October. The other two films, How old are you with Kunchacko Boban and Ennum Eppozhum with Mohanlal were super successes at the Box Office and the 3rd one is with Rima Kallingal which is titled as Rani Padmini directed by Aashiq Abu.
