Mariyam Vannu Vilakkoodhi opens to positive response from youth audience
Three Malayalam films — ‘Mariyam Vannu Vilakkoodhi’, ‘Anveshanam’ and ‘Gauthamante Ratham’ had hit screens last day (January 31). All three films have opened to good response. While ‘Mariyam Vannu Vilakkoodhi’ is a stoner comedy, ‘Anveshanam’ is a medical thriller with an emotional core. ‘Gauthamante Ratham’ starring Neeraj Madhav is a feel-good family flick.
‘Mariyam Vannu Vilakkoodhi’ written and directed by debutant Jenith Kachappilly has opened to largely positive response. Youth audience in particular seem to have lapped up the film. It is an unusual stoner comedy that comes across as a thoroughly enjoyable entertainer.
The film stars the ‘Premam’ gang of Siju Wilson, Krishna Shankar, Shabareesh Varma and Althaf Salim in the lead roles. The main story evolves over a single night when a gang of friends get together and smoke pot. This leads to absurd yet hilarious situations.
‘Mariyam Vannu Vilakkoodhi’ is not a run-of-the-mill fun flick. It belongs to a genre rarely attempted in Malayalam and yet is entertaining. With the support of the youth audience, the film is expected to have a good run at the box office.
