Massive projects lined up for Tovino Thomas!
Tovino Thomas is fast climbing up the ranks to become one of the leading actors of the current crop in Mollywood. He is riding on a string of successful movies under his belt. His last few releases like Guppy, Oru Mexican Aparatha and Godha have all earned him popularity among the Malayali audience. Tovino now has a handful of projects in his kitty, some of them are really exciting with the team involved.
Tovino’s next release will be Tharangam, a black comedy directed by newbie Arun Dominic. Tovino is playing the role of sub inspector Padmanabhan in the movie. Newcomer Neha Iyer and Santhy Balachandran are playing the female leads. Tamil actor Dhanush is making his entry to Mollywood by producing this movie under his banner Wunderbar Films.
Tovino is currently shooting for Aashiq Aashiq Abu’s Maayanadhi. It is an intense romantic subject, story for which is written by Amal Neerad. National award winner Shyam Pushkaran and Dileesh Nair are jointly scripting this film. Aishwarya Lekshmi plays the female lead. Mayaanadhi is jointly produced by Aashiq Abu’s OPM Dream Mil Cinemas and Amal Neerad’s banner Amal Neerad Productions.
Tovino has also wrapped up shooting for his Tamil debut film, directed by ace cinematographer BR Vijayalakshmi. Pia Bajpai, noted for her perfomance in movies like Goa, Masters, Ko etc is playing the female lead in this movie. This Tovino starrer is reportedly being made as a bilingual in Tamil and Malayalam. The movie is said to be based on a true incident that happened in Brazil. Santhosh Sivan is the executive producer of this yet-to-be titled film.
Last day, another upcoming movie of Tovino was announced. Titled as Maradona, the movie marks the directorial debut of with debutant Vishnu Narayanan, a former associate of Dileesh Pothan, Aashiq Abu and Sameer Thahir. Angamaly Diaries actors Kichu Tellus, Tito Wilson and Chemban Vinod are playing prominent roles in the movie. Newcomer Sharanya R Nair is playing the female lead. It is scripted by Krishnamoorthy, who has previously assisted directors Lijo Jose Pellissery and Dileesh Pothan. Actor Dhanush’s production house Wunderbar Films is funding this movie, their second Tovino starrer.
Tovino is also playing the lead in Mollywood’s first time travel movie Tick Tock. The movie directed by newbie Vivek Anirudh, is about a man who tries to find his past or tries to change his past seeking answers from himself.
Besides these above mentioned films, Tovino has also committed for two other big budget projects that are currently in the pre-production stages. VFX Supervisor Sidhil Subramaniam’s directorial debut Chengazhi Nambiar and Oru Mexican Aparatha fame Tom Emmatty’s Hano are the two biggies in the nascent stages.
Hano is based on a true story that happened in 1520. It is a story about an elephant and its mahout who were sent from Kochi to the Vatican. Tovino is playing the role of a mahout in the movie. Hano is being planned as a 3D film and will be made as a multilingual in Malayalam, Italian and Portuguese languages. Manu Jagadh, who has worked as an art director in Baahubali, has been roped in to head the art department to recreate the 1500s setting. Hano is expected to go on floors by next year. The movie will reportedly be bank rolled by a foreign production company.
Chengazhi Nambiar is a period drama based on the life of Chengazhi Nambiar, Chandroth Panicker and many other historical figures who fought against Samoothiri in Maamaankam in 1505 AD. Tovino is playing the role of Puthumana Panicker in this movie. Top stars from other industries are rumoured to be part of the movie. The movie is being planned on a grand scale with a massive budget of over 100 crores.
So altogether, it’s an highly exciting 2 years ahead for Tovino Thomas. By the end of the season, he is certain to extend his fan base and cement his position among the big league actors.
