Mohanlal’s Aashiravad Cinemas to enter Bollywood with Oppam remake
One of the most prestigious production companies in Mollywood industry, Aashiravad Cinemas is all set to debut in Bollywood.
The company will be making their entry into Bollywood with the remake of Malayalam blockbuster of Oppam. Oppam starring Mohanlal was directed by ace filmmaker Priyadarshan.
Reportedly, Akshay Kumar will be playing the lead role in the Hindi version which will be directed by Priyadarshan himself. Rest of the cast and crew have not yet been finalized.
Aashiravad Cinemas is owned by Mohanlal and Antony Perumbavoor. Their first production venture was the blockbuster Narasimham. It was the all time highest grosser in Mollywood during that time. The company has produced 23 movies all of them starring Mohanlal.
Aashiravad Cinemas has produced some of the biggest blockbusters of Mohanlal in this decade like Ravanaprabhu, Naran, Baba Kalyani, China Town, Spirit, Drishyam and Oppam.
The Hindi remake of Oppam is the first movie the company will be producing without Mohanlal as the lead.
Oppam was a crime thriller in which Mohanlal played the role of Jayaraman a blind man. It was the first time Mohanlal was playing a blind man’s role throughout a movie. The actor delivered an amazing performance and was hugely appreciated. Priyadarshan also received critical acclaim for trying a genre which he has not tried before.
Oppam is still continuing its good run in theatres fetching good returns for the makers. Recently the movie crossed the coveted 50 crore mark.
Akshay Kumar has earlier also played acted in some remakes of Malayalam blocbusters like Manichitrathazhu, Ramji Rao Speaking and Boeing Boeing.
But Oppam will be a totally different movie and the blind character will be a substantial role in his career.
