Kayamkulam Kochunni is gearing up to hit screens. The movie directed by Rosshan Andrrews stars Nivin Pauly in the titular role. Bobby and Sanjay have scripted the movie based on the life of Kochunni, a legendary highwayman who was active in Travancore region during the 18th century. Superstar Mohanlal is also there in an extended cameo role in the movie.
Mohanlal plays the role of Ithikkara Pakki, who is considered as a predecessor to Kochunni. Myth has it that Pakki was the first legendary Robin Hood of Kerala; he and Kochunni were contemporaries. It was Pakki who started the unique style of robbing, which was later continued by Kochunni. Mohanlal came into the movie well after shoot commenced. Expectations went sky-high as soon as he joined the team.
According to writer Sanjay, Mohanlal was chosen to play Ithikkara Pakki as the character demanded an extraordinary actor like him. Reportedly, the actor has performed some highly risky stunts very effortlessly. Location stills of Mohanlal in the Pakki look went viral in social medias. The actor sports a rugged bearded look and an unique westernized costume style. In one of the location stills, the 57-year-old star can be seen lifting one leg to more than 90 degrees with east, which speaks volumes about his agility and flexibility.
According to the makers, the combination scenes between Mohanlal and Nivin Pauly will be the movie’s biggest highlight. Apart from them, the movie also stars Sunny Wayne, Shine Tom Chacko, Priya Anand, Manikandan Achari, Sunil Sukhada, Babu Antony, Aneesh G Menon, Amit Chakalakkal and Kannada actress Ashwini.
The technical crew of Kayamkulam Kochunni boasts of some big names like Binod Pradhan, Nirav Shah, multiple national award winning editor Sreekar Prasad and renowned sound designer PM Satheesh. Gokulam Gopalan is producing this big budget movie under the banner of Sri Gokulam Films.
