Mohanlal lends his voice for a ‘naadan paatu’ in Odiyan
The long wait for Odiyan is nearing its end as Odiyan is getting ready to hit screens this October. This Mohanlal starrrer is unarguably one of the most awaited Malayalam movies in recent years. The movie directed by VA Shrikumar Menon is based on the lives of odiyans, whose stories are popular in Kerala’s folklore. National award winner Harikrishnan has scripted the movie and is produced by Antony Perumbavoor under the banner of Aashirvad Cinemas.
According to the makers, music plays a major part in Odiyan. Veteran M Jayachandran has composed the songs and Sam CS of ‘Vikram Vedha’ fame is handling the background score. Interestingly, Mohanlal has rendered a ‘naadan paatu’ in this movie. Director Shrikumar Menon revealed this exciting bit of information in a recent interview.
Odiyan album has a total of five songs and the director has promised that each one will be different from one another. Apart from Mohanlal, some leading singers like MG Sreekumar, Shankar Mahadevan, Shreya Ghoshal and Sudeep have also lent their voices for the other tracks in Odiyan. Lyrics for these songs are penned by Rafeeq Ahammed, Prabha Varma and Lekshmi Shrikumar.
Odiyan is shaping up as a mass entertainer with shades of fantasy, magical realism and romance. It is probably the first movie in Indian cinema that is based on ‘odividya’, which is a kind of black magic practice used to tackle enemies. The posters and teasers have all been successful in raising the curiosity of the audience. All eyes now on October 11 for the grand release.
