Mohanlal’s ‘Empuraan’ Smashes Records with ₹325 Crore Total Business Globally

“L2E Empuraan”, the explosive sequel to “Lucifer”, continues to rewrite history for Malayalam cinema with a staggering ₹325 crore total business worldwide. The film has grossed ₹260+ crores from theatres alone, while the non-theatrical revenue — including OTT and satellite rights (Malayalam version only) — has added another ₹65 crores, making it the biggest total business ever for a Malayalam film.

Directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran and headlined by Mohanlal, “Empuraan” has proved to be a massive commercial success. The film has raked in an impressive ₹86 crores from Kerala, ₹142 crores from overseas markets, and ₹34 crores from the rest of India, underlining its pan-Indian and global appeal. With rich storytelling, stellar performances, and high production value, the film has set a new gold standard for Mollywood blockbusters.

The OTT rights were acquired by JioCinema for a record sum, while the satellite rights of the Malayalam version was sold to Asianet for a record sum. Notably, the satellite rights of the dubbed versions are not yet included in the total revenue, meaning the overall business figure could rise even higher. “Empuraan” is not just a film — it’s a phenomenon redefining Malayalam cinema’s reach and revenue potential.
