Barroz will be made on a lesser budget than Marakkar, reveals Antony Perumbavoor
Mohanlal’s much hyped directorial debut ‘Barroz’ is getting ready to go on floors by the end of June. It is scripted by Jijo Punnoose, the visionary filmmaker who made India’s first 3D film ‘My Dear Kuttichathan’. It is the story of Barroz, a mythical figure who was the gaurdian of Vasco da Gama’s valuable treasures for 400 years. Antony Perumbavoor is producing the film under the banner of Aashirvad Cinemas.
In a recent interview, Antony revealed that ‘Barroz’ will be made on a lesser budget than ‘Marakkar Arabikadalinte Simham’. The Priyadarshan directorial is publicized to be made on whopping budget of around 100 crore. Though ‘Barroz’ doesn’t demand such huge budget, it it will be still be a technically superior film. The film will have a lot of freshness in terms of writing and treatment.
In Mohanlal’s own words, ‘Barroz’ is set against the backdrop of the maritime history of Portugal, Spain, India and Africa. It is about the shared heritage that we inherited from our ancestors. The story is basically centred around the character, Barroz, who protects the treasure of Vasco Da Gama until his true heir comes back to guard it.
While Mohanlal plays the titular role, the supporting cast mostly comprises of foreign actors from US, Spain, Portugal and Ghana. A 13-year-old child artsite named Shayla McCaffrey will be seen as the female lead. Spanish actor Rafael Amargo and award-winning actress Paz Vega will be playing other prominent roles. Apart from Mohanlal, veteran Prathap Pothen is the only other Malayali actor in the film as of yet.
