Mohanlal’s Odiyan Manikyan is a fabulous athlete
Any update about Mohanlal’s upcoming movie Odiyan triggers a big buzz in social medias. The movie was officially launched last week in Trivandrum and is all set to start go on floors by August second week. Odiyan marks the debut directorial of renowned ad filmmaker VA Shrikumar Menon and is written by National award winner Harikrishnan.
As we already know, Odiyan is a fantasy film that is primarily about Odividya, a black magic and people who practice it, who are called Odiyan. There are a lot of stories and myths about Odiyans and their life in Kerala’s folklore. The movie is conceived as a thriller that will have a mix of action, romance and magical realism.
Director VA Shrikumar, in a recent interview revealed some interesting information about Mohanlal’s character in the film. He is playing the role of Odiyan Manikyan and will be seen from the age of 30 to 65 in multiple looks.
Odiyan Manikyan is a terrific athlete who is mastered in Odividya. He can run on four legs and jump higher than normal people. Recently, the makers had released a casting call for boys who can play the younger part of Mohanlal’s childhood. They had particularly mentioned that the aspirants should have good flexibility and be well trained in Kalaripayattu, gymnastics and martial arts.
National award winner Peter Hein has been roped in to choreograph the stunts. The movie’s major attraction will be it’s action-packed sequences. Peter Hein will be choreographing five riveting action scenes in the movie. The stunts and songs will be weaved in as part of the narrative.
Manju Warrier is playing the female lead and veteran actor Prakash Raj will be seen in a powerful antagonist’s role. Sabu Cyril is in charge of Odiyan’s production design. Sreekar Prasad will be handling the edits and M Jayachandran is composing the music. Pulimurugan’s cameraman Shaji Kumar will be wielding the camera.
Mohanlal’s own production house Aashirvad Cinemas is funding this big budget movie. Palakkad, Pollachi, Hyderabad and Varanasi have been finalized as the major locations.
