Mohanlal’s ‘Thudarum’ Creates History with ₹100 Crore Kerala Gross; First Ever in the History of Mollywood
Mohanlal has once again rewritten the history of Malayalam cinema with his latest blockbuster ‘Thudarum’, directed by Tarun Moorthy. The film has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first-ever Malayalam film to gross ₹100 crore from Kerala alone, accomplishing this feat within just 19 days of release. This marks an unprecedented achievement in the Kerala box office landscape, placing ‘Thudarum’ in a league of its own. Previously, Malayalam films like 2018 (₹89 crore), Empuraan (₹86 crore), and Pulimurugan (₹85 crore) came close to this benchmark, but none had crossed it until now.
The film’s success isn’t limited to the Kerala market. ‘Thudarum’ has stormed past the ₹200 crore mark globally, currently standing at ₹207 crore worldwide gross. It has earned ₹88 crore from overseas markets and is inching towards ₹20 crore from the rest of India. With this, ‘Thudarum’ becomes only the third Malayalam film to gross over ₹200 crore globally, joining the ranks of Empuraan (₹265 crore) and Manjummel Boys (₹241 crore). The film has also become the second Malayalam film to sell over 4 million tickets on BookMyShow, reflecting its massive popularity.
Mohanlal’s dominance continues as he now becomes the only Malayalam actor with two ₹200 crore films and four ₹100 crore films. From being the face of Malayalam cinema’s first ₹50 crore global grosser (Drishyam), first ₹50 crore Kerala grosser (Pulimurugan), first ₹100 crore global hit (Pulimurugan), to delivering ₹50 crore and ₹100 crore overseas grossers (Lucifer and Empuraan respectively), the legendary star continues to set new benchmarks. With two ₹200 crore films released in just a span of 45 days, Mohanlal’s unmatched box office reign shows no signs of slowing down.
