Prithviraj’s Syamanthakam is definitely happening, we are still working on the project: Hariharan
Syamanthakam was a very ambitious project announced by veteran filmmaker Hariharan a few years ago. The director was planning to make the epic movie with Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead of Lord Sree Krishna. However, there were no updates about the movie for a long time which made people believe that the project has been dropped.
Finally, director Hariharan himself has come out informing that the project is definitely happening and that works are progressing for the same. In a recent interview to TOI, he is quoted saying, “The project will go on floors. We are now working out on which languages to make the movie as well as the rest of the details.”
Syamanthakam is one of the most famous chapters in Mahabharata in which a search is undertaken to find a stolen precious stone, named Syamanthakam. Lord Sree Krishna is the hero in this episode and it explores a variety of sides of the character, including the ones in which he is a warrior. It will not showcase Lord Krishna as a philosopher but also as a warrior and a lover.
Hariharan, who has also written the movie, said that script demands extensive utilisation of modern technology. If the project happens, it will be the first time in Indian cinema that Sree Krishna is presented in a heroic avatar. Reportedly, Prithviraj will be training in horse riding, martial arts and some other art forms to play this role.
Prithviraj currently has around 6-7 projects in his kitty which also includes another epic-mythological film based on the life of Karna from Mahabharatha. It is still not known when Syamanthakam will actually go on floors.
