Ranjith Sankar clears airs about Njan Marykutty being a remake of PadMan!
Last day, director Ranjith Sankar had unveiled the title poster of his next movie through his official Facebook page. The movie titled as ‘Njan Marykutty’ will have Jayasurya playing the lead role. The poster has evoked a lot of curiosity since the title is written on a sanitary pad. That straightaway rings a bell as it has a striking resemblance to Akshay Kumar’s upcoming movie PadMan.
While cine buffs in social medias continue to discuss about this, director Ranjith Sankar himself has come out clearing the airs. In a recent interview to DC he clarified that Njan Marykutty is not a remake of PadMan. Though he remained tight-lipped about the story line, he confirmed that his film has an entirely different plot.
PadMan, directed by R Balki is inspired from the real life of Arunachalam Muruganantham, a Tamil social activist who made low cost sanitary pads. Apparently, Ranjith Sankar had plans to make a movie on the same subject but it could not materialize.
In the interview, he is quoted saying, “PadMan was a story that I wanted to make for a long time and I had even discussed this story with a lot of people but the reason I finally backed out was that since it is a real-life story, I thought it would not be convincing if I made it in Malayalam.”
The director has not yet revealed the name of the actress who will be playing the titular role of Marykutty. They are planning to go on floors by March and release it by June. More details regarding the cast and crew is expected to be officially announced very soon.
