Salman Khan to compensate distributors for Tubelight’s loss
In a rarity, Salman Khan’s recent release Tubelight has failed to do well at the box office. The movie was released amidst humongous expectations since Salman was teaming with Kabir Khan after the massive success of Bhajrangi Bhaijaan. However, Tubelight was on the back foot right from the opening day courtsey the below average critic ratings and the poor word of mouth.
Since the movie has caused big lossess to the distributors, they were demanding that Salman pay for the losses incurred. As per latest reports, Salman has agreed to pay Rs 55 crores as compensation for the distributors. Salman is also the co-producer of Tubelight.
The report was confirmed by trade analyst Komal Nahta, who tweeted,
“Salman Khan has agreed to refund monies to distributors to make up for losses in Tubelight. A lovely gesture. That’s being human!”
Salman’s father Salim Khan has been quoted in Firstpost as saying, “When a distributor suffers a loss, the producer needs to show some responsibility and share the burden. We, too, have done the same thing. We met a few of them and are trying to find a middle ground. We will pay back the distributors.”
Audience, including fans, were disappointed to see an emotional family drama as Salman is popular for his larger than life characters and mass masala flicks. As per trade analysts, Tubelight is Salman’s biggest failure in the last six years. The film took 7 days to cross the Rs 100 crore mark and has managed to earn just Rs 114.50 crore at the Indian box-office.
Eventhough, Tubelight’s failure has affected them, Salman Khan’s fans have other reasons to rejoice as Bhai has another big release this year. He is currently shooting for Tiger Zinda Hai, the sequel to his 2012 blockbuster Ek Tha Tiger. The movie, directed by Ali Abbas Zafar marks the rejoining of Katrina Kaif and Salman Khan on screen. Tiger Zinda Hai is scheduled for a Christmas release this year.
