Samantha starrer Shakuntalam launched; Sufiyum Sujathayum fame Dev Mohan to play the male lead
Samantha’s new pan-Indian film ‘Shakuntalam’ got launched today. The film is directed by Gunasekhar, who has made popular Telugu films like ‘Okkadu’ and ‘Rudhramadevi’. It is the screen adaptation of Kalidasa’s epic Sanskrit play, Abhijnana Shakuntalam. It explores the love story of King Dushyantha and Shakuntala, the daughter of sage Vishwamitra and apsara Menaka.
Malayalam actor Dev Mohan has been signed as the male lead. He will be seen playing the role of Dushyantha in the film. The model-turned-actor grabbed eyeballs with his performance in the Malayalam film, ‘Sufiyum Sujathayum’,
For ‘Shakuntalam’, he has undergone training in horse riding, sword fighting etc. Apart from that, he is also taking classes in Telugu. Samantha has also been training in classical dancing for the past few months. The actress is highly excited about the film as she has never done a character like this before in her decade-long career.
This ambitious film is produced by Neelima Guna and will have music scored by Mani Sharma. Shoot has been planned to kick-start next week.
