The jury will decide ‘who is the best’ in different categories from those films which released last year and then the awardees are confirmed. This year the formation of jury and the declaration of the state award has been delayed due to some political reasons. And now another dilemma has came in just before the declaration of the awards that there has been huge difference of opinion among the jury members regarding the major awards including the Best Actor award.

There were 70 films submitted for the awards this time and according to the reports coming in, actors including Mammootty (for his performance in Munnariyippu and Varsham), Nivin Pauly (for his performance in 1983), Musthafa (for his performance in Ain). There is a lot of differences among the members of the jury as to who have to be chosen as the best actor. Many of them says that Musthafa who got the special jury mention in the National awards of this year for his performance in Ain have to be given the best actor award and some says Jayasurya’s performance in Apothecary deserves to get hold of the Best Actor Award’. There are members who wants to give it to youngsters like Nivin Pauly and Dulquer Salmaan as well for their matured performance in films like 1983 and; Njan respectively. There are supporters for Mammootty too. There has been also reports that actor Lal is also in the race to win the best actor title for his performance in Iyobinte Pusthakam.

For Best Actress award the front runners are Manju warrier for the film How old are you?, Lena for the film Alif and Priyanka for the flick Jalam. Films like Iyobinte Pusthakam, Ottal, Njan, Munnariyippu and 1983 are in the race for the Best Film awards as well.
