Suriya and Karthi’s family donate Rs 50 lakhs for Gaja Cyclone Relief
Gaja cyclone that lashed the state of Tamil Nadu last week has taken around 45 lives and caused destruction of properties worth hundreds of crores. According to official reports, 735 livestock too were killed in the cyclone. Crops in 88,102 hectares, mostly paddy, coconut and banana, have also been extensively damaged.
The state government and disaster relief management teams are working tirelessly to bring back normalcy in cyclone-hit areas. Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Pudhukottai, Sivagangai, Thiruvavur, Dindugal and parts of Theni and Madurai have been severely affected by the cyclone. NGOs, students and various other organizations are providing the relief materials for the affected people.
Actor Suriya’s family have also pitched in by donating Rs 50 lakhs through NGOs. Suriya, his wife Jyothika, father Sivakumar and brother Karthi have jointly donated the sum for their fellow state men. Earlier, during the Kerala floods also, the family had generously donated towards the Chief Minister’s disaster relief fund. It is indeed a very benevolent act from them, that is certain to inspire others. More celebrities from the Tamil film industry are expected to follow suit and lend a helping hand to the cyclone-hit people.
