Tamil Cinema 2016: Half Yearly Box Office Collection Report
First half of 2016 has over by June and Tamil Cinema witnessed around 100 releases this year till now. But the success rate is too low as very few films got profit from screens. There were some big successes as well that came from big stars of the industry. Siva Karthikeyan starrer Rajni Murugan was the first super hit of this year. Keerthy Suresh, the Malayalam actress played the lead in it.
Sundar C directorial Aramanai 2 had got a great start at box office but failed to sustain it in the long run. The surprise hit of this year in Tamil was Irudhi Sutru starred by Madhavan. The film had got great critical appreciation as well.
Vijay Sethupathy starrer films like Sethupathi and Karthi starrer Thozha becomes successes. Vijay Sethypathy- Madonna Sebastian movie named Kadhalum Kadanthu Pogum also become a box office success this year. Thozha and Kadhalum Kadanthu pokum had done more business at overseas market. There was another surprise hit as well and it was Vijay Antony starrer movie Pichaikkaran.
The overseas market had contributed handsomely to Tamil Movies this year and as expected Vijay starrer Theri and Suriya starrer 24 had emerged as the winners at overseas box office. Theri had done a total business around 200 crore from worldwide and emerged as the biggest hit of this year till now in Tamil Cinema. Theri had got more than 45 crores from overseas market and 24 had got around 31 crores. Rajni Murugan earned 13 crores from overseas market and Aramanai also got around 9 crore from overseas.
Films like Miruthan starred by Jayam Ravi, Idhu Namma aalu by Chimbu, Iravi by Vijay Sethupathi etc also got success this year in Tamil Cinema.
