Thuramukham has one of my career best roles: Indrajith Sukumaran
Shoot for Rajeev Ravi’s period flick ‘Thuramukham’ has been progressing for the last couple of months. The movie has a stellar star cast comprising of Nivin Pauly, Biju Menon, Indrajith Sukumaran, Nimisha Sajayan, Arjun Ashokan, Poornima Indrajith and Manikandan R Achari. This is the first time all these talented actors are coming together and it looks highly promising.
In a recent interview to The Cue, Indrajith revealed that ‘Thuramukham’ has one of the best roles that he has done so far in his career. The movie is inspired from some true incidents and Indrajith plays a real-life character. Though his screen time will be limited, it is a very powerful character that will have a major impact.
As the title ‘Thuramukham’ suggests, the movie revolves around a harbour and the lives of coastal people. The story is set in the Cochin harbour in the 1950s. It is based on the historic protests against the inhuman ‘chappa’ system, that existed during the 50s, wherein copper coins were thrown at waiting workers in a primitive ‘work guarantee’ scheme, which had resulted in police firing and martyrdom of three labourers in Mattancherry.
KM Chidambaran had earlier written a play named ‘Thuramukham’. Rajeev Ravi’s movie is inspired from this play. The playwright’s son, Gopan Chidambaram, a scenarist, who has previously co-written ‘Iyobinte Pusthakam’, has scripted the movie.
