Acclaimed filmmaker Rajeev Ravi’s long-gestating project on legendary playwright and INA freedom fighter NN Pillai seems to be taking a new shape. Initially announced in 2017 with Nivin Pauly in the lead, the film had since remained in limbo, with no official updates for years. However, recent unconfirmed reports indicate that the project may now be reimagined as a web series for Netflix, with a fresh cast and possibly a broader narrative format to explore the iconic figure’s multifaceted life.
Actor Vijayaraghavan, NN Pillai’s son, had earlier confirmed that the project was never shelved but faced delays due to its massive scope. He also expressed hope that the ambitious biopic would eventually materialize, considering the historical and artistic value of his father’s story.
While Nivin Pauly is reportedly no longer attached to the project, talks are underway with another prominent young star from Mollywood to take over the role. As per buzz, Gopan Chidambaram remains the scriptwriter, and Madhu Neelakandan is expected to handle cinematography. NN Pillai, fondly remembered as ‘Nadakacharyan’, is an irreplaceable figure in Malayalam theatre and cinema.
