Tovino Thomas replaces Prithviraj in this upcoming movie!
Riding on a string of successful films, Tovino Thomas has established himself as a bankable actor. He has some exciting projects in his kitty like Aashiq Abu’s Maradona, Dhanush’s Maari 2 and a couple of films with promising debutant directors. Latest addition to his list of films is ace filmmaker Kamal’s much talked about movie Aami.
This Manju Warrier starrer is the biopic on late writer Madhavikutty aka Kamala Das. The movie also stars Murali Gopy and Anoop Menon in crucial roles. Prithviraj was supposed to play a cameo role in this film but the actor is caught up with his ongoing projects. Tovino has been brought on board to replace Prithviraj. Though it is a brief role, the character reportedly has great importance in the story line. Tovino has some big shoes to step in and it will be interesting to see how he performs.
Shoot for Aami has been progressing in multiple schedules in Kerala, Kolkata and some other parts of North India. The final schedule of shoot will kick-start in November and the makers are planning to release it in December during the Christmas season.
Aami was in the news ever since it was announced. Vidya Balan was initially cast for the titular role but she opted out at the last moment owing to some creative differences with the director. Though there were talks about Vidya walking out due to political pressure, the actress maintained that it was purely on professional reasons.
When it was finally announced that Manju Warrier would be play the lead role, a section of social media users threatened her not to play the role of such a controversial personality. Kamal Das’ life was marred by several controversies. She revolutionized writings with her honest treatment of female sexuality and infused her writing with power and bold themes.
Aami is being produced by P T Rafel and Roban Rocha on a budget of 5 Crores. M Jayachandran and Thoufeeq Quershi are handling the music director. Veteran Sreekar Prasad is the editor and Oscar award winning sound designer Resul Pookkutty is also part of the technical team.
