Tovino’s Guppy is all set for re-release!
Guppy is among the finest as well as the most unfortunate movies in recent times. The movie directed by debutant John Paul George was critically acclaimed but ended up as a failure at the box office. Upon the DVD release, the movie earned a lot of appreciation from the viewers. Ever since then, talks have been going around about a possible re-release.
Finally, it is happening as Guppy will be re-released in three centres in Kerala. The movie will be screened at Sree Vishak (Trivandrum), Savitha (Ernakulam) and Naveen (Malappuram). Tovino Thomas informed this last day through his official Facebook page.
Guppy is an excellent piece of cinema that deserved to be on the winning side but lamentably could not. John Paul George’s skilled writing and direction blended beautifully to bring out a movie that was devoid of any forced commercial gimmicks. Master Chethan and Tovino Thomas as the leads were outstanding especially the former who deservingly won the Kerala State Award for his performance in the movie.
Composer Vishnu Vijay (best background score), Sooraj Santhosh (male playback singer) and Stephy Xavier (costume designer) were the other award winners for Guppy. Cinematographer Girish Gangadharan also won a special jury for his work in the movie.
A fair run at the re-release is the least that one can do for its failure at the original theatrical run. This is another chance for all those who missed Guppy from theatres. Grab your tickets for this special show.
