Vishu Releases 5-Day Box Office Report; Alappuzha Gymkhana Reigns Supreme, Marana Mass Going Steady, While Bazooka Misfires at the Box Office
Khalid Rahman’s youthful entertainer Alappuzha Gymkhana, starring Naslen K. Gafoor, has taken the box office by storm this Vishu season. The film has grossed a massive ₹15.26 crore from Kerala alone in 5 days. Internationally, it pulled in $1.301 million (₹11.20 crore), with a roaring $1.02 million (₹8.75 crore) from the Gulf market. With its total all-India gross crossing ₹18 crore in just five days, the film stands tall as the undisputed Vishu winner. Backed by strong word-of-mouth and youth appeal, Gymkhana is on a record-breaking spree.
Mammootty’s Bazooka, directed by Deeno Dennis, has sadly turned out to be a major letdown. Despite high expectations, the film could only manage ₹10.47 crore from Kerala and ₹11.7 crore across India in 5 days. Overseas, it collected $1.003 million (₹8.63 crore), including $875K (₹7.5 crore) from the Middle East. The film is quickly losing steam, and trade circles are already predicting a big loss. What was expected to be a stylish thriller has turned into one of the biggest disappointments of the season.
Meanwhile, Marana Mass, directed by Sivaprasad and starring Basil Joseph, is slowly but steadily finding its footing. With a Kerala gross of ₹5.86 crore and overseas collections of $261K (₹2.25 crore) from the Gulf, the film’s all-India gross has touched ₹6.71 crore in 5 days. Produced by Tovino Thomas Productions, the comedy entertainer is gaining momentum thanks to positive reviews and family-friendly content. It may just turn out to be the dark horse of the Vishu race.
