YSR Biopic: Mammootty’s Yatra starts rolling tomorrow!
It is already known that Malayalam superstar Mammootty is playing late Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy in his biopic. The movie titled ‘Yatra’ is directed by Mahi Raghav, who has made movies like ‘Paathshala’ and ‘Anando Brahma’. If latest reports are to be believed, shoot for Yatra will officially kick-start tomorrow (June 20). Mammootty has allotted around 40 days for the first schedule of the movie.
YS Rajasekhara Reddy, popularly known as YSR, is one of the most popular and revered politicians that the state of Andhra Pradesh has ever seen. YSR died in an air crash in 2009 when the helicopter carrying him crashed in a dense forest. He was so hugely popular that hundreds of his followers committed suicide upon hearing his unfortunate demise.
According to director Mahi Raghav, Yatra is an event-based film which primarily focuses on the time during YSR’s famous three-month-long padayatra in 2003. The padayatra was a defining moment in his career which transformed him into a people’s leader. While Mammootty has been confirmed for YSR’s role, the makers are yet to make an official announcement about the actors who will be playing the other crucial roles.
Yatra is one of the biggest movies that are currently being made in Tollywood. The makers ar planning to complete shooting and post-production formalities in six months and release the film by next January. The movie is being produced jointly by Vijay Chilla and Shashi Devi under the banner of 70MM Entertainments.
Meanwhile, Mammootty’s latest release Abrahaminte Santhathikal continues to run to packed house in centres across Kerala. Releasing on Saturday, the movie was opened to tremendous audience response and successfully registered this year’s biggest opening at the Kerala box office. Mammootty plays a police officer in this movie scripted by Haneef Adeni and directed by Shaji Padoor. Abrahaminte Santhathikal is slated to hit screens in UAE and GCC from June 21.
