Dangal earns Rs 1000 crore mark from the Chinese box office

Aamir Khan’s Dangal was released on May 5 in China. The movie has become a huge sensation in the country setting the box office on fire. Within a month from it’s release, Dangal has created history by minting over Rs 1000 crores at the Chinese box office.

Dangal has become the 33rd film in Chinese cinema history to cross one Billion RMB, which in Indian currency amounts to about Rs 1000 crore. According to Maoyan, a popular ticketing website in China which is connected to most of the theatres in the country, Dangal’s gross earnings has crossed one billion RMB, joining the exclusive club of just 32 films in China cinema history market.

Eventhough the release of the Hollywood movie, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales has dethroned Dangal from the top spot, it is still managing to do some huge business.

Prasad Shetty, partner of Strategic Alliance a Chinese firm promoting Indian films in China is quoted saying to PTI,
“It is an unprecedented success for an Indian film and important land mark, making Dangal a super hit Indian film. It is still playing in about 9000 screens. Dangal’s success in China perhaps opens a Pandora Box for Indian cinema as successes in China’s Box Office means world’s highest revenue.”

Dangal, directed by Nitish Tiwari is a sports drama inspired from the real life of wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat, who trained his daughters to champions in wrestling. Aamir Khan essayed Mahavir Singh Phogat’s character while Fatima Sana Sheikh, Sanya Malhotra, Zaira Wasim and Suhani Bhatnagar played his daughter’s parts.

The movie was released as Shuai Jiao Baba or Let’s Wrestle Father in Chinese. Releasing in around 9000 screens all over the country, the movie started to mint big bucks right from the word go.
