Shajahanum Pareekuttiyum Review
Shajahanum Pareekkuttiyum is the Eid release in Mollywood this year and it is a Boban Samuel directorial film scripted by YV Rajesh. Boban Samuel had earlier given us movies like Janapriyan, Romans, Happy Journey etc and all of them got great appreciation from the audience. This film Shajahanum Pareekkuttiyum is produced by Ashiq Usman productions in association with Central Pictures.
The plot of this movie revolves mainly around 3 characters named Prince, Pranav, Jiya played by Jayasurya, Kunchacko Boban and Amal Paul. Pranav is a businessman, Prince is a street goon and Jiya is a rich girl who had to suffer an unfortunate incident in her life. She losts her memory after an accident. When both Pranav and Prince comes and says that they loves Jiya and when they begins to love her in their own ways, the story starts moving forward. Jiya is engaged to another one named Major Ravi played by Aju Varghese. Both Prince and Pranav had their own intentions for loving jiya.
Boban Samuel is a director who knows the pulse of the audience and he proved it with his previous movies. But here he failed in providing a decent entertainer. This movie tells a simple story and we can’t say that it is a never seen before one. But Boban Samuel had presented in a really interesting manner in the first half and made it a fun filled entertainment package in the pre interval session. Later everything went wrong and things went out of control . The screenplay by YV Rajesh was a passable one in the first half. But the screenplay went below par in the second half and the climax was just an average one.
In the first half, the film is hilarious as the situation created were too good to make the audience laugh. But the writer and director had failed to carry forward the momentum till last. Performance from both Jayasurya and Kunchabo Boban was good and their chemistry was fabulous. They complimented each other really well and the comic timing of both these actors were terrific. Jiya played by Amala Paul is not one of her best characters and but she gave a matured performance. Aju Varghese emerged as the show stealer with his character named Major Ravi and he had got great round of applause from audience for his one liners and at certain scenes, he was really hilarious. Suraj Venjarammood also sizzled as Mathews. Artists like, Vijaya Raghavan, Rafi, Kochu Preman, Irshad, Kalabhavan Shajon, Kunjan, Nadirsha, Lena, Sunil Sugatha etc also did a decent job in the movie.
Camera was cranked by Anishlal and the colorful visual provided by him was indeed suited the theme of the movie. Gopi Sundar’s music and Lijo Paul’s editing also came out good and the film maintained a decent pace specially in the first half. But the sluggish pace in the second half had ruined it all. In total, Shajahanum Pareekuttiyum failed to live up to the expectations and ended up as a below average movie, unfortunately.
