Mammootty, apart from being a popular star has always been known for his philanthropic activities. He has financially supported many patients for their treatment. The actor recently helped Riyaz, a resident of Aluva to get back to life from a life threatening heart situation.
Riyaz was admitted to the Rajagiri hospital with chest pain last month. Tests indicated a serious heart situation with major blocks in the valves, and the doctors suggested for an urgent surgery. Friends and relatives started their desperate efforts to raise funds for the operation. Even after many people came forward with hefty contributions, still they could not cover the entire cost required for the surgery. The matter somehow reached the local MLA Mr. Anwar Sadath who in turn approached Mammootty.
