Ezra becomes the first Malayalam movie to release in Ukraine
While Prithviraj’s latest release Ezra is doing setting the cash registers ringing in Kerala, the makers have scripted history by releasing the movie in Ukraine. Ezra is the first Malayalam movie ever to release in Ukraine. The movie will release on February 25, Saturday in Kino Multiplex in Kharkiv, the second largest Ukrainian city.
This is truly a proud moment for all those who worked behind Ezra beacuse only some selected Bollywood movies release in Ukraine. Ezra, being a horror thriller will appeal to audience of all sensibilities.
Ezra, directed by debutant Jay K, stands up among some of the technically best horror thrillers in the country. Novelty in the plot also worked positively for the movie. It is in fact the first ever Indian horror movie with a Jewish backdrop. The movie throws light on the Jewish history in Kerala. The plot is set in two timelines, spanning from the 1940s to 2016.
Ezra was released amid huge expectations as the makers had publicised it to be the first authentic horror thriller in Mollywood in recent memory. It did live up to the expectations and that is evident from the phenomenal business that the movie has been doing. It has already crossed the 15 crore mark from the box office collections in Kerala alone. The movie registered a whopping Rs 2.65 crores on the opening day itself from around 125 screens in Kerala. Trade sources inform that the the movie in all probability will end up as the biggest ever hit in Prithviraj’s career.
Ezra was released outside Kerala in 154 screens on February 17. The movie also marked the biggest ever release for a Malayalam movie outside Kerala. It was released in UAE in places like Dubai, Ajman, Abu Dhabi and Fujairah.
Popular actress Priya Anand made her Mollywood debut through this movie. Tovino Thomas, Sudev Nair, Babu Antony, Sujith Shankar, debutante Ann Sheetal, Vijayaraghavan and Bharath Dabholkar have played supporting characters.
Mukesh R. Mehta, C. V. Sarathy and A. V. Anoop have jointly produced the movie under the banners of E4 Entertainment and AVA Productions.
