Ulladakkam is a favourite as I got a chance to work with Mohanlal Sir: Amala Akkineni
C/O Saira Banu featuring Manju Warrier in the title role is continuing it’s good run in all the release centres. The movie, directed by debutant Antony Sony, was a very special one it was the comeback vehicle of yesteryear actress Amala Akkineni to Malayalam cinema after 26 long years.
Amala Akkineni was one of the leading actresses of the South during the 80s and 90s. She has acted in all major Indian languages including Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi.
Although she has acted in only two Malayalam movies prior to C/O Saira Banu, she is a very familiar face to the audience. Her performance in Fazil’s Ente Sooryaputhrikku and Ulladakkam still remains etched in the memory of the Malayali audience.
In a recent interview, Amala said that Ulladkkam, her second movie in Malayalam, is very close to her as she got a chance to work with Mohanlal. Ulladakkam, directed by Kamal was a psychological thriller written by P Balachandran. Amala’s performance as the mentally traumatized Reshma is considered as one of her best performances ever. The movie also won Mohanlal a Kerala State Award for best actor and the best director award for Kamal.
Like a cherry on the topping, there was Mohanlal’s presence in Amala’s comeback movie C/O Saira Banu also. He had lent his voice for the character of Peter George in the movie. Amala played the role of Annie John Tharavady, an advocate in the movie. It was a powerful character that demanded someone of her stature and Amala delivered a commendable performance.
