Aamir Khan’s Dangal does the improbable; Becomes the first Indian movie to cross Rs 2000 crore mark
Aamir Khan’s Dangal is has finally become the first Indian movie to enter the Rs 2000 crore club. Even after six weeks of it’s theatrical run, the movie is still unshaken at the Chinese box office. It has so far earned Rs 1218 crores at the Chinese box office. The earnings from Taiwanese box office estimated as Rs 41 crores. The total worldwide collection of the movie stands at whopping Rs 2001 crores. During it’s initial theatrical run in India, the movie earned Rs 540 crores. In other overseas countries, Dangal has managed to gross Rs 202 crores.
Dangal was released in 9000 screens in China on May 5. The Chinese version is titled as Shuai Jiao Baba, which means Let’s Wrestle Father. Ever since it’s release, the movie has been getting outstanding response from the Chinese audience.
Within a month from it’s release, Dangal created history by earning over Rs 1000 crores at the Chinese box office. It became the 33rd film in Chinese cinema history to cross one Billion RMB, which in Indian currency amounts to about Rs 1000 crore. It is also the highest grossing non- Hollywood film in the country.
Dangal is a sports drama directed by Nitesh Tiwari. It is inspired from the real life of wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat, who trained his 2 daughters to world class wrestlers. The movie also stars Sakshi Tanwar, Fatima Sana Sheikh, Suhani Bhatnagar, Zaira Wasim and Sanya Malhotra in lead roles. The film is produced under the banner of Aamir Khan Productions and UTV Motion Pictures.
