Mohanlal visits Kannur Territorial Army Battalion
Malayalam superstar Mohanlal recently visited his fellow Terriers at the 122 Infantry Battalion (TA) Madras, Kannur. He shared some of the photos taken during his visited there, in his official Facebook page. He is the first actor in the country to be awarded the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army of India.
Mohanlal joined the Territorial Army as an honorary lieutenant colonel in 2009. The Indian Territorial Army (TA) is a second line of defence after the Regular Indian Army. It is not a profession, occupation or a source of employment. It is only meant for those people who are already in mainstay civilian professions.
The army announced Mohanlal’s appointment in December 2008. He is the first and only actor to have been conferred this title. His role in two of his army based films, Keerthi Chakra and Kurukshetra, as an army officer, led to his interest in the army and he voluntarily joined the Territorial Army.
On the work front, the actor is currently shooting for Ajoy Varma’s upcoming movie titled ‘Neerali’. After its completion, he will be joining the third and final schedule of VA Shrikumar Menon’s Odiyan.
