Famous action choreographer Kaecha on board for Mammootty’s Mamankam!
The first schedule of Mammootty’s much hyped period flick Mamankam is all set to go on floors on Monday (February 12). The movie marks the directorial debut of Sajeev Pillai, a former associate of the legendary Adoor Gopalakrishnan. Venu Kunnampilly of Kavya Films is backing this big budget project.
Since it is a spectacle-heavy movie, the makers have signed some of the best available technicians in the country. Renowned action choreographer Kaecha Kampakdee has been roped in to helm the stunts. He is popular for his works in movies like Thuppakki, Bhaagi, Vishwaroopam, Aarambam, Billa 2 etc. Mamankam has a lot of action sequences and Kaecha will be looking forward to deliver his best for this ambitious project.
Mamankam is a medieval fair which was held every 12 years from 800 AD to 1755 AD. The festival was held on the banks of Bharathapuzha in Tirunava where brave warriors from across the country would come together to showcase their skills at combat. Mammootty will be seen as a ‘Chaaver’ (warrior) in this movie, which revolves around the life of these warriors who plot to defeat the Zamorin rulers.
Director Sajeev Pillai himself has scripted the movie after doing extensive research works for nearly 12 years. VFX works in Mamankam will be headed by RC Kamala Kannan, who has worked in several big projects in South Indian cinema. Ganesh Rajavelu is the cinematographer and veteran M Jayachandran has been confirmed as the composer.
The makers are yet to finalize the cast. Promising young actors Neeraj Madhav and ‘Queen’ fame Dhruvan are confirmed to play crucial roles. Some big stars from other industries will also be part of Mamankam, but their names have not yet been revealed. An official announcement regarding the same will be made only after the first leg of shoot is over.
The first schedule that is starting tomorrow in Mangalore will be a brief one lasting for ten days. Mammootty is also expected to join the team tomorrow. Full fledged shoot will begin only in May.
