96 is a blockbuster in Kerala; Vijay Sethupathi’s first solo hit
’96’, the romantic drama starring Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha is the current talk of the town. Directed by debutant Prem Kumar, 96 is a poignant tale of how two childhood sweethearts meet after two decades for a school reunion. The movie has been getting unanimous appreciation from all corners ever since its release on October 4. Both Critics and commoners have rated it as one of the finest romantic flicks that have come out of Tamil cinema it recent years.
In Kerala, 96 is witnessing phenomenal response with most shows running to packed houses. The movie was released here on October 5 in around 80 screens in the first week. Due to the highly positive word of mouth and increasing count, the screen count was increased to 106.

The Kerala rights of for 96 was acquired for Rs 50 lakhs and the movie has earned double the amount already. This is by far the biggest hit of Vijay Sethupathi in the state. Previously, his ‘Vikram Vedha’, which also had Madhavan in the lead, had performed well here.
