Markkar: Arabikadalinte Simham to go on floors on December 1
Priyadarshan’s magnum opus Marakkar – Arabikadalinte Simham is getting ready to start rolling from December 1. The movie has been in the pre-production phase for months now. Huge set works are progressing in Ramoji Rao Film City, where major portions will be shot. This epic film is planned to be made on a budget of Rs 100 crores. Aashirvad Cinemas, Confident Group and Moonshot Entertainment are coming together to produce what is one of the most expensive projects in Malayalam cinema till date.
The movie is based on the life of Kunjali Marakkar IV. Kunjali Marakkar was the title given to the naval chief of Zamorin of Calicut
in the 16th century, whose duty was to protect the coast against the invading Portuguese army. Mohanlal plays the titular role while his son Pranav plays the younger part of his character. Veteran actor Madhu has been signed to essay the role of the first of the four Markkars, Kutyali Marakkar.
Arjun Sarja, Suniel Shetty, Mukesh, Keerthy Suresh, Kalyani Priyadarshan, Manju Warrier, Pooja Kumar and many other top actors are part of the elaborate star cast. Few British and Chinese actors will also be seen in major roles in the movie. In the technical front, Priyadarshan has got Sabu Cyril to handle the production design. National award winner Tirru is the DOP. Some other leading technicians from India and abroad will be associated with this ambitious project.
The makers are planning to wrap up the shoot by March next year and the film will be released only in 2020 as it demands extensive post production works.
