Kaaval was offered Rs 7 crore for OTT release but will go ahead with theatrical release: Joby George
Suresh Gopi’s ‘Kaaval’ is a highly anticipated film. As it marks the veteran star’s comeback to mass genre after a long gap, fans are highly excited about it. It is written and directed by Nithin Renji Panicker of ‘Kasaba’ fame. Joby George of Goodwill Entertainments is producing the film. In a recent interview, the producer revealed that he was offered up to Rs 7 crore for releasing the film directly in OTT. However, he has decided to wait for the theatrical release.
‘Kaaval’ has been in the making for over a year. It was in the final stages of production when the lockdown was announced. They resumed shoot in October end and manged to wrap it up in quick time. Despite the delay, producer Joby George feels that he was financially stable enough to wait for theatre release. He also supported those producers who opt for OTT releases as they have no other options.
The recent announcement regarding Mohanlal’s ‘Drishyam 2’ getting released in Amazon Prime has met with mixed response in the industry. Theatre owners and distributors have strictly opposed the decision. However, the film’s producer Antony Perumbavoor has maintained that he had no other option as he had the ambitious ‘Marakkar Arabikadalinte Simham’ under the wraps for nearly a year.
